Applications can be made via the Civil Service Commission (Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Awam -SPA) online site www.spa.gov.my and by filling in the SPA Form 8i.

The positions available are:

a) Museum Assistant S19 (minimum qualification SPM)
b) Assistant Curator S29 (minimum qualification Diploma)
c) Curator S41 (minimum qualification University Degree)

The following procedures are required to qualify as a Museum Volunteer:
 
i. Send in an application form found in the website of Department of Museums Malaysia
ii. Attend the briefing and interview
iii. Attend 16 modular classes related to history and culture.
iv. Give 3, 7 and 15 - minute presentations in the National Museum.
v. Upon graduation guide at the National Museum for at least 2 years.
vi. Presentation of certificate after the above procedures.

Intakes of practical students are based on the needs and vacancies at the Department of Museums Malaysia.  Students who are interested to engage in practical training at the Department of Museums Malaysia may send in your resumes accompanied with official applications from the Universities/Institutions.

Send in your letter of application to the Department of Museums Malaysia accompanied with a letter of recommendation from relevant agency/employer/IPTA/IPTS.  Applicant is to fill in a form issued by the Department and, acknowledge and abide by the terms and conditions as stipulated in the program.  Successful application will be notified within 3-7 working days based on completion of the application upon submission.

Only staff are allowed to borrow material from the library and visitors may use the materials as references only.

The categories of pictures kept at the Department of Museums Malaysia are:
 
i. Natural History
ii. Archeology
iii. Ethnology
iv. Monument
v. Exhibition
vi. Research
vii. History
viii. Events of the Department

You may obtain these pictures for sale at the Media Resources Division.   Complete a form and receipts will be issued after cash payment is made at the Finance Division.   The selected and purchased picture will be made in soft copy only.  Size of picture is 300dpi.

The rate of payment is according to the following categories:

Non-student 300 dpi RM 60.00
Government Agencies 300 dpi RM 60.00
Private Sector 300 dpi RM 500.00

Yes, the Department of Museums Malaysia does accept donations of artifacts’ collections from the public / organisations depending on the evaluation conducted by the Committee of Gifts under JMM.

Interested parties may fill in the JMM Offer of Artifact Form (please refer to the Website of the Department of Museums Malaysia) and email it to the Collections Administration Division, Department of Museums Malaysia.

The Conservation Administrative Division does not render refurbishment services to individuals. However, the Division may provide advisory services and prior approval is required from the Director General of the Department of Museums Malaysia.

The authenticity of any collection or objects is under the jurisdiction of the Committee of Artifact Evaluation and Collection Administrative Division.The Conservation Administrative Division only handles coordination, provide advisory services, condition evaluation and upkeep of the artifacts in the repository and open spaces especially those owned by the Department of Museums Malaysia and other related museum agencies.

The Natural History Museum is temporarily not operational until further notice by the Department of Museums Malaysia through its website and social media.

Any complain or suggestion can be channeled to the Corporate Communication Division via the Public Administration’s Complain System (Sistem Pengurusan Aduan Awam-SISPAA) found in the JMM’s website.
