Muzium Adat (Customs Museum)

The formation of the first Muzium Adat in Malaysia was the brainchild of the Honourable Datuk Seri Utama Dr. Rais Yatim, Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage Malaysia. This museum, standing in Kuala Klawang, in the district of Jelebu, is located 30km from town of Seremban. The main emphasis of the museum is to collate the various facets of the lifestyle of the Malaysian Society relevant to and which is definitive of the image and identity of Negeri Sembilan as Land of Customs. A special segment on the Adat Perpatih is also on public display alongside other artifacts relating to customs.

Malaysia Architectural Museum

The Architectural Museum is still in its planning stages. It will be located in a building erected during the Dutch colonial period. The building has been reinstated to its original state by the Department of Museums and Antiquities in the year 2000.

As acknowledged publicly, Melaka is the Museum State. There are 15 museums, each with different functions, among them The Museum of History and Ethnography, The Beauty Museum, Youth Museum, The Museum of Indigenous People, The Alor Gajah Museum and Jasin Museum. All these museums will be under the management of PERZIM (Perbadanan Muzium Melaka/Museum Body of Melaka). An added tourism product will emerge with the construction of the Museum of Architecture. This yet to be completed museum is under the supervision of the Department of Museums Malaysia.

Kota Johor Lama Historical Complex

Kota Johor Lama Historical Complex is administered by Department of Museums and Antiquity (now Department of Museums Malaysia) since 1970.

Literature on this historical fort can be found in:

1. Excavation by G.D.G. Sieveking, C.A. Gibson Hill and Whitley in 1954.
2. Written research by I.A. Macgregor (Journal of the Malayan Branch Royal Asiatic Society in 1954).
3. The Johor Heritage Journal in 1997.
4. Iesnordin bin Hj. Malan - Historical Sites in Johor. Unpublished Report 1994.

Kota Johor Lama is located at the left-side shore of the Johor River, about 27 km from Bandar Kota Tinggi or roughly 30 km by land via Desaru to Teluk Langat. The fort is situated in a rubber estate area on the shores of the Johor River. There are also a few Malay settlements such as Teluk Sengat Village and Johor Lama Village.
