The Golden Man Exhibition

The Golden Man Exhibition

This exhibition features The Golden Man (Zolotoy Chelovek in Russian, Altyn Adam in Kazakh), a warrior armour from the 5th century B.C., which was found in 1969 and buried in Scythian, 60 kilometres from East Almaty, nearby the District of Yessik (Issik). The warrior armour was made out of 4000 pieces of separate gold pieces, with animal motifs and has a hat which is 70cm long, that is pointing to the arrow’s direction to the sky, a pair of tigers and a mythical creature with wings and two heads. Although the person who put on this costume may not have any genetical connections with the Modern Kazakh, The Golden Man have become the favourite national symbol of Modern Kazakh.

This exhibition will also feature the unique jewelry arts of early 15th century found at the Sairam settlements in South Kazakhstan and artefacts found at Taldy II Burial Site in centre of Kazakhstan, that ended in the mid-second half of 7th century B.C.  it also features the traditional clothing items of Sarmatian noble women, another group of nomads that lived in the end of sixth to the mid-5th century B.C., which were found in is West Kazakhstan on April 2012. More than 500 pieces of various gold jewelries were found at the burial site, and displayed animal-style Scythian-Siberian features. It is hope that this exhibition will contribute to understanding of Kazakhstan culture and to strengthen the relationship of the people from both countries.
