“Sleepover @ Muzium Negara” Programme In conjunction with the 51th Merdeka Celebration

Background

Muzium Negara will be organizing a “Sleepover @ Muzium Negara” in conjunction with Malaysia’s 51th Merdeka celebration.

The objective of this Sleepover programme is to expose students on the role of the museum, especially, Muzium Negara as a centre for reference, and edutainment. This Sleepover event also offers an opportunity for students to gain a better insight and understanding of the museum; not as an antiquated building that houses dead objects but as one of the leading institutions of education which conserves, preserves and exhibits priceless artefacts of history and culture and contributing to nation building.

Muzium Negara (National Museum), known for being the respository of the nation's heritage has put together an exhibition on the handicrafts and cultural paraphernalia of the Orang Asli community in Malaysia. More than 400 collections of Orang Asli figurines and handicrafts are exhibited and documented in this catalogue. There have been many publications on the Orang asli and their arts and handicrafts, we believe this book will no doubt be most timely in the effort to document the crafts of this community which is slowly facing extinction.
