The traditional Malay community has long maintained a close relationship with the maritime environment, where the sea and rivers have served not only as sources of livelihood but also as the foundation of its philosophy of life, culture and unique customary traditions. This session of the Custom Museum Talk explores the Adat Turun Perahu (Boat Launching Ceremony), a traditional heritage ritual rich in local wisdom, spiritual beliefs, symbolism and aesthetic values. The session will also provide insights into the Adat Turun Perahu customs practised by fishing communities in the East Coast states of Peninsular Malaysia.
