Nostalgic Raya Dishes Exhibition

Poster Pameran Nostalgia Sajian Raya

Date: 5/9/2009 - 4/10/2009
Location: Muzium Negara

Nostalgic Hari Raya Dishes... each one of us would surely have our own special recollection. Beckoning the joyous memories of that Raya morning preparation of Hari raya staples such as ketupat (rice cake) and lemang (made from glutinous rice and coconut milk and cooked in bamboo) as well as the other delicacies, which in the past could only be enjoyed on special occasions and on festivals such as Hari Raya.

The hardship of life in the past meant that the arrival of these delicacies was much anticipated to complete the celebrations. Without them, Hari Raya seemed to lose its luster. Today, the ketupat, lemang, and other delicacies, which had hitherto been categorized as traditional, are not only exclusively enjoyed on Hari Raya but have become heritage dishes enjoyed by all Malaysians, aptly in line with the proverbial saying: 'tak lekang dek panas, tak lapuk dek hujan'(something that remains infinite)
