Introduction

The Department of Museum Malaysia's library is the main reference center for library collections pertaining to the field of museums in Malaysia. With a collection totalling over 9,000 volumes of books, local and international serial publications as well as other research-based facilities make the library among the Nusantara region’s elite.

  1. Library Loan - limited only to department staff
  2. Research work - open to public
  3. Internet access: - open to public
  4. Photocopy of material - open to public with minimal fees.
  5. Research area - ample space provided

Operating Hours

Monday to Thursday: 8.30 am - 4.30 pm

Friday: 8.30 am - 12.15 pm; 12.15 pm - 2.45 pm (closed); 2.45 pm - 4.30 pm

Closed during Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays

Reference Materials available at the Department of Museums Malaysia Library

Monograf and other references

This is the biggest collection in the Library of Department of Museums Malaysia. The collection covers many headings related to museology like archeology, conservation history, culture, art, heritage etc. All catalog items can be referenced according to DDC classification as follows:

Koleksi rujukan terdiri daripada bahan seperti kamus, ensiklopedia, direktori, bibliografi dan sebagainya Bahan-bahan ini tidak boleh dipinjam dan hanya boleh dirujuk di dalam Perpustakaan sahaja.

Serial Publications

Dalam menyediakan maklumat yang tepat, padat dan berfaedah kepada kakitangan serta penyelidik, Perpustakaan JMM juga menyediakan koleksi terbitan bersiri.Terbitan bersiri ini diperoleh secara pembelian dan juga secara percuma. Bacaan ringan ini disediakan bagi menambahkan lagi maklumat serta ilmu pengetahuan umum kepada kakitangan Jabatan Muzium Malaysia amnya.Terbitan bersiri ini terbahagi kepada 2. Terbitan Tempatan dan Terbitan Luar Negara.

Government Publications/ Annual Reports

Koleksi laporan tahunan kebanyakannya diperoleh secara percuma. Koleksi ini merangkumi laporan kerajaan serta laporan syarikat swasta.

Seminar/ Working Paper/ Conference Proceedings/ Symposium/ Thesis

Terdapat juga bahan rujukan dalam bentuk kertas kerja, seminar, simposium dan tesis. Kebanyakkan bahan-bahan ini diperolehi secara percuma dan juga hasil penyelidikan yang disediakan oleh kakitangan Jabatan Muzium Malaysia. Kertas kerja yang terdapat di perpustakaan ini merangkumi beberapa tajuk antaranya arkeologi, tekstil, ukiran, tempat-tempat bersejarah, tarian, senjata dan juga senibina. Antara tajuk kertas seminar pula ialah Seminar Dan Forum Perdana Penghayatan Dan Pengukuhan Kemerdekaan Malaysia. Dan juga beberapa tajuk seperti Persidangan Antarabangsa Tamadun Dunia Melayu ke II, Simposium Karya Seni Seniman Agung P. Ramlee dan lain-lain. Kesemua bahan ini dijilidkan bagi memudahkan ia dirujuk.

Journal

Koleksi ini merangkumi jurnal tempatan dan antarabangsa yang diperolehi melalui pembelian, hadiah dan pertukaran. Journal of the Federated Malay States Museums merupakan koleksi terulung dan terpenting mengenai pemuziuman di Malaysia bermula sejak tahun 1905. Jurnal-jurnal muzium terbitan kerajaan negeri di seluruh Malaysia tersimpan di perpustakaan ini.
