ICOM Shanghai 2010

The General Conference of ICOM hold every three years, it is the important meeting for the ICOM mutual sharing, learning with Museum of the world, advancing the cause of sustainable development of the Museum. It is also the most important event of ICOM and International Council of Museums.

         22nd General Conference of the ICOM will be held from 7th to 13th Nov, 2010 in Shanghai, China. The theme of ICOM is “Museums for Social Harmony”.

ICOM-CC Triennial Conference 2011, Portugal

The ICOM-CC Triennial conference 2011, this time organised in Portugal, is approaching. It is now possible to submit abstracts for papers, but only till 16 April. You can find information on the conference and instructions for submitting papers on-line at the conference website

In the previous ICOM-CC conference in New Delhi, India, in 2008, the papers and posters of CollAsian colleagues were received with great interest. We hope that CollAsia will be even more strongly represented at the 2011 conference, but this depends on you!

You can guide your ideas for a paper by the current themes addressed by the working groups or by the overall theme of the conference. You can find out about the different working groups at http://www.icom-cc.org/9/working-groups/ . But don't feel restricted by themes of the conference or working group, as ICOM-CC welcomes all proposals. So if you've got an idea, submit a proposal. Read more »

The basic role of the museums is to promote various activities, including research, collection building and management of materials and specimens, exhibition and education. Many museums are contributing to the community with promotion of scientific studies and releasing scientific data and information of museum collection. Some museums also play a role in attracting tourists for regional developments.

Museums in Asia-Pacific region are diversified in many aspects, such as locations from Far East to the West, capacities, and activities.We are now facing various problems about the management and operation of the museums, and we, as the museum professionals of Asia-Pacific region, should consider the definition, roles and the future of the regional museums.
