Lenggong Archeological Museum

The Lenggong Archeological Museum is also known as the Kota Tampan Archaeological Museum. Lenggong is located on what used to be an oil palm estate covering 8.7 acres. The building settlement was selected according to site significance, which was a paleothic-era archaeological site that existed 31,000 years B.C. Besides exhibiting Kota Tampan excavational items and artifacts related to it, it also displays the reconstruction of the Kota Tampan excavational site.
 

Collections and Galleries

Museum collections consist of excavational artifacts and items of Kota Tampan and those related to it. The museum’s permanent exhibitions are divided into three categories covering the Kota Tampan Excavational Site Gallery, Lenggong Pre-Historic Gallery and the Human Civilization Gallery including important findings of the Lenggong Valley stone paraphernalias from the Bukit Jawa, Kg. Temelong and Bukit Bunuh Paleolithic Age. One fascinating and unique arfifact is the 10,000-year old Perak Man skeleton.

Besides artifact findings from the Bronze Neolithic Age Funeral Site at Gua Harimau, the discovery of stone paraphernalias from the Epi-Paleothic Age at Telok Kelawar and Ngaum caves and other sites around Lenggong Valley are sure to spice things up. Other items on display are The History of Human Evolution and Civilization, dating from the Homo-Habilis to the modern Homo-Sapiens.

The Lenggong Archeological Museum is located about 70 km from the Jalan Butterworth/Ipoh intersection and the junction to Rengas heading towards Kota Bharu, Kelantan, a distance of roughly 2 km to the Kg. Luat and Perak River intersection. By Bus Heading towards Kota Bharu, Kelantan.
