Batik Making Techniques In Malaysia

The batik industry in Malaysia expands in all aspects especially in its usage of materials, motifs and techniques. Till today, there are several widely used technique such as block technique, sketch, stensil or print, chanting and resis technique without using candling method which is called 'tritik' and tie dying. Each technique will produce different batik motifs and design. Available in Malay version only.

Tengkolok

Tengkolok is a type of head dress used since the period of Malay Sultanate. In Negeri Sembilan, Tengkolok is widely known as 'Destar'. The arts skills and creativity of the folder known as 'Tukang Lipat' gives variation in designing the Destar. The designs are destar 'Kacang Dua Helai Daun', 'Dendam Tak Sudah', 'Sarang Kerengga', and 'Solok Timba'. Each curve and folded arcs represents its own unique philosophy and identity. Available in Malay version only.

Tikar Pandak

'Tikar Pandak' is a kind of mat that originated from Negeri Sembilan, a land rich with Malay culture heritage. 'Tikar Pandak' is a compulsory item in most of Negeri Sembilan's ceremonies such as the ruler's installation, appointment, funeral, engagement and marriage. This mat is made of woven screw-pines leaves known as 'mengkuang' and decorated with golden thread and framed on a piece of colored cloth. Available in Malay version only.
